Design, Technology and Society Master’s and Doctoral Program Application Requirements

Design, Technology, and Society Master’s and PhD programs are part of the Graduate School of Social Sciences. Please refer to OzU Graduate School of Social Sciences for further information on program requirements and application.

  

Application package and minimum requirements


All documents should be either in Turkish or English. Documents in other languages should be accompanied by their relevant Turkish or English translations. Application package is not returned to the applicant.

 
1. Application form: 
The application form should be completed digitally and accurately. All the questions should have been answered.

 

2. Diploma: If the applicant has graduated, a copy of the diploma should be presented. If the applicant has not graduated yet, an official document stating the anticipated date of graduation should be submitted.

 

An undergraduate degree is required for applying the mater’s program. It is possible to apply the PhD program with an undergraduate degree or a master’s degree.

 

3. YÖK equivalence document: For degrees that have been obtained from foreign universities, it is necessary to present a copy of the YÖK (Council of Higher Education) equivalence document.

 

4. Transcripts: Official academic transcripts for all degrees granted by the applicant. These documents should list the applicant’s grades for courses. If transcripts do not include information about the grading system, an official document explaining the grading system of the institution should be added. 

 

For Design, Technology and Society Master’s Program application, the minimum undergraduate GPA requirement is 2.3 (out of 4).

 

For Design, Technology and Society Doctoral Program application, if the candidate holds a graduate degree, the minimum undergraduate GPA requirement is 2.3 (out of 4). If the candidate is applying for the PhD program without a master’s degree, the minimum undergraduate GPA requirement is 3 (out of 4).

 

5. Postgraduate education entrance exam results: Any of the exam documents stated below (ALES, GRE). This document is not required from foreign students.


Minimum requirements for applying Design, Technology and Society Master’s Program:

  • ALES, can be in any score type, minimum 55

  • GRE (new system), quantitative score, minimum 149 (valid for 5 years)

  • GRE (old system), quantitative score, minimum 610 (valid for 5 years)

 

Minimum requirements for applying Design, Technology and Society PhD program with a graduate degree:

  • ALES, can be in any score type, minimum 60

  • GRE (new system), quantitative score, minimum 150 (valid for 5 years)

  • GRE (old system), quantitative score, minimum 634 (valid for 5 years)

 

Minimum requirements for applying Design, Technology and Society PhD program without a graduate degree:

  • ALES, can be in any score type, minimum 80

  • GRE (new system), quantitative score, minimum 156 (valid for 5 years)

  • GRE (old system), quantitative score, minimum 720 (valid for 5 years)

 

6. English proficiency exam results: Any of the exam documents stated below (TOEFL, YDS, KPDS, ÜDS).

 

Minimum requirements for applying Design, Technology and Society Master’s Program:

  • TOEFL-IBT minimum 66 (valid for 2 years). The exam should be conducted at one of the YÖK approved university exam centers.

  • ÜDS/KPDS/YDS minimum 55 (valid for 3 years)

  • ÖzÜ English Proficiency Exam minimum 50 (valid for 2 years)

 

Minimum requirements for applying Design, Technology and Society PhD program with a graduate degree:

  • TOEFL-IBT minimum 84 (valid for 2 years). The exam should be conducted at one of the YÖK approved university exam centers.

  • ÜDS/KPDS/YDS minimum 70 (valid for 3 years)

  • ÖzÜ English Proficiency Exam is not accepted at doctoral level studies.

Minimum requirements for applying Design, Technology and Society PhD program without a graduate degree:

  • TOEFL-IBT minimum 84 (valid for 2 years). The exam should be conducted at one of the YÖK approved university exam centers.

  • ÜDS/KPDS/YDS minimum 70 (valid for 3 years)

  • ÖzÜ English Proficiency Exam is not accepted at doctoral level studies.

 

7. References: Two copies of academic reference letters should be submitted. These letters should be received from the applicant’s previous instructor(s) working at academic institution(s) and/or applicant’s employer. Reference letters from family members or friends will not be accepted.


8. Letter of intention: A brief document about the personal and professional goals, aspirations and the applicant’s intended area of study. This letter should be in English.

 

9. Writing sample: The applicants should submit 2 writing samples; academic writings are preferred. These samples should be in English. Writing samples are not required for master’s level applicants.

10. Master’s thesis: Applicants applying to PhD program with a master’s degree should submit a copy of their master’s thesis.

 

11. Curriculum vitae: Applicants should submit their curriculum vitae.


12. Passport: Foreign nationals should supply a copy of the details page of their passport (including their photo, personal information, date and place of issue).


13. Supplementary documents: A portfolio of work showcasing the applicants’ academic and professional path. This is optional.
 

Application Process


Before applying, applicants should contact Prof. Dr. Alpay Er (alpay.er@ozyegin.edu.tr) or Asst. Prof. Ali O. İlhan (ali.ilhan@ozyegin.edu.tr) and indicate their areas of interest together with their intended are of research in the program.

 

Application usually takes place once a year and in the summer time. Students applying in the summer start the program in the following fall semester. Those who want to apply should follow the website of the Graduate School of Social Sciences for the application deadline. All the application documents should be submitted before the deadline.

 

Those who are successful from the initial review of the application package are invited for an interview. Students application for the programs are announced after the interview process.
